Well when it comes to Rust.. Coatings can struggle to win. Where Rust becomes an issue is when its able to find a way underneath the coating. This can happen for several reasons. If the coating has a rack mark (an area the coater uses to hang the parts) and the non-coated area is exposed to a wet environment or cleaning solution. This is where rust will find a way in. The rust can spread underneath the coating which can start the delamination process. The more exposure the coating gets to the environment after the adhesion has been compromised the more the delamination will continue.
The solution to this is pretty simple. Understand the properties that the metal parts are being exposed too and work with your coating supplier to accommodate that environment. Its easy to just pick a black powder coating because you want the metal painted and that’s what your vendor has in stock. Dig deeper. Make sure that your providing the best solution for your metal finishing needs. Are you not sure? Click here we can help.
